Savannah's Puppy Diary

There was a Little Black Puppy outside in our Grass yesterday. Momma said his name is Jack and he belongs to our friend Cindy.  Momma told Cindy that he was As Cute As A Button but she says the same thing about Me and Sweet Pea too.  I had my Collar and Leash on but Jack didn't have anything and he was Running and Bouncing and Licking and Smiling and Just Being A Happy Puppy. Momma said that she didn't want to Take My Leash Off because she didn't know if I would Run Out Of The Yard but who could have Run Anywhere with that little Black Puppy running and tumbling under my feet?

Momma told Cindy that she Wouldn't Make A Big Fuss Over Jack because she Didn't Know If I Would Get Jealous but I saw Momma petting Jack behind his Ears and under his Belly and I just got closer to Momma so she wouldn't forget I was there. Daddy Smiled Really Big and played with Jack and said that his Gracie was that small when he found her at The Shelter and he said Isn't It Nice How Every Little Puppy Is Always So Full Of Joy. Well I was Full Of Joy when I was Jack's size but then I was taken away and put Inside A Fence with Puppy #1 who kept Stealing My Food and Sleeping In The Coolest Spot In The Shade and Splashing Too Much In The Little Blue Pool and how is a Puppy supposed to be So Full Of Joy after all of That?

Last night just before Dinner Momma's friends from The Old Neighborhood were Driving In The Hill Country and called to ask if they could Stop By For A Minute on their way Back To Clear Lake. Momma said Fine and then she Ran Upstairs to Change Clothes and then Ran Back Downstairs to get ready for Tea and I wondered why the The Old Neighborhood People didn't come for Tea on Wednesday afternoon like Everybody else?

I didn't Bark when The Old Neighborhood People walked in the back door. Momma had told me to be extra-special Good because These People Aren't Really Dog People so I had to Set A Good Example and Behave.  The Lady talked to me and I Wagged My Tail at her but when The Man came in the Door I just sat there and Looked at him and tried Not To Bark. I didn't Bark the whole time they were Having Tea In The Dining Room even though I was getting Hungry and I was wondering why we just couldn't Have Dinner like we usually do but Momma served Tea And Cookies and gave me Treats so my Tummy wouldn't Rumble. When The Old Neighborhood People got back in their Truck to go Home to Clear Lake they told Momma and Daddy to Come And Visit Us Real Soon And Bring Savannah With You And She Can Stay In A Pet Crate While She's In Our House. Momma and Daddy just said Yes We Sure Will but when the Door was Shut Tight Momma told Daddy that Savannah was Not Going To Stay In A Pet Crate in somebody else's House not even The Queen Of England's House.

This morning I walked all the way Down Our Hill and on The Other Road with both my Momma and my Daddy. We stopped at Diablo's fence to see if he was there but we couldn't find him and Momma said Isn't It Funny That For Such A Big Horse He's Very Good At Hiding HaHaHaHaHa. Momma said that Diablo was probably at the Far End Of His Pasture and we would see him Next Time. Then we stopped at Miss Gloria's house but she wasn't Home and Momma said we would see her Next Time too. I don't know when Next Time is but I guess that we will Walk Down Our Hill and on The Other Road again and again until Diablo comes Out Of Hiding and Miss Gloria Gets Back Home.

When we were Walking, Daddy held my Leash right from our own Porch and Didn't Let Go until we got Home again. Momma was Making Believe that she didn't see Daddy Holding My Leash but I could tell that she kept Watching Me out of the Corner Of Her Eye.  Daddy said he Didn't Feel Connected To Me while we were Walking like he used to feel with Gracie.  I was on a Leash wasn't I? and you can't get Any More Connected than that.  I Walked Very Nicely with Daddy and I didn't Pull and didn't Waste Time Smelling Goats and Cows and Chickens and Peacocks and Coyotes and Fox and Armadillos and Raccoons and Skunks and Snakes and Heaven Only Knows What Else Is Out There in Momma's Godforsaken Country Bubble.

Momma said Daddy expects Too Much of me and we Have To Remember that even though I Look As Big As Gracie was I Am Still A Puppy. Savannah Savannah Savannah. You are Still A Puppy and Don't Ever Forget Who You Are. You Are Savannah!  Momma said that it will take a while for Daddy to Put Gracie in the Back of his Heart so there's room in there for Savannah and I need to have Patience with Daddy because Some Things Just Take Time.

After our Walk Momma made Tea and Daddy watched Baseball and said This Team Isn't Going Anywhere and he wasn't Smiling so I put my Paws up near his Lap and gave him a Good Smile Full Of Puppy Breath and he must have Liked That because then he Did Smile and he said Good Girl Savannah Good Girl.

Momma said that I have to Stop Barking every time Daddy walks Down The Stairs and comes into The Kitchen. She said I ought to know the Sound of his Voice and his Footsteps by now just like I know hers. Well if the Daddy Person would Talk To Me as much as Momma does then I would get to Know his Voice like I know Momma's. And when I hear Footsteps On The Stairs and Momma is Busy Typing or Reading or Cooking then I'm going to Bark because who knows if Momma is Paying Attention or Not and what if it's a Stranger coming Down Those Stairs to take my Momma and then who's going to Be Here to take care of me?  Momma said every time I see the Daddy Person I act like it's the First Time and that's Not Good.  And then Momma said this is like Having Two Puppies In The House instead of Just One and One Of Us Had Better Snap Out Of It.

Momma kept trying to read one of her Books yesterday but Puppy Life Gets In The Way sometimes and she said it takes her Six Days now to read a Book that used to take her Six Hours. But Momma said I won't always be a Puppy and she'll have More Time For Reading when she doesn't Have To Keep An Eye on me Every Minute of Every Day to make sure that I don't do Anything Ridiculous. I looked at Momma and thought that she would have More Time For Reading if she wasn't Mopping The Kitchen Floor every time I get Water from my Bowl and Teaching me to Sit Savannah Sit and Stay Savannah Stay all day long.

Daddy told Momma he saw the New Black Dog across the road and he said that the Dog was Four Years Old and wasn't Fixed and she needed to Be Careful not to let That Dog near me until I get Fixed next week.  Momma asked Daddy how he knew That Dog wasn't Fixed and Daddy started singing The Answer My Friend Is Blowing In The Wind HaHaHa.   Momma didn't know what he meant and then Daddy told her that the Dog's Balls were Bouncing Around as he walked so it was Evident he was Intact. I don't know what Fixed means and I don't know what Intact means but Momma told me that I wouldn't be visiting That New Black Dog anytime soon and she didn't understand why these Country Bubble People can't do the Right Thing and Just Fix Their Pets and Be Done With It.
