I am Exhausted. I don't know what my Momma was thinking but she kept Opening The Door the other night and People Kept Coming In. Mostly everyone was Dressed Funny and They were all Laughing and Taking Pictures and sometimes the People would come up to The Gate that Momma put up in the Breakfast Room and they would say Why Hello Savannah Just Look At How Much You've Grown and Aren't You The Lucky Puppy To Have A Room All To Yourself.
Everyone was saying Happy Halloween Where Did You Get That Costume Did You Make That Yourself Aren't You Clever and then some of the Tea Ladies asked Momma why I wasn't Wearing a Costume and Momma told them that maybe I was Stressed Out enough just being Kept in One Room all Night long so she didn't want to Bother Me with a Costume. Well thank Goodness for my Momma because I saw a lot of People with Blue and Pink Hair the other night and Let Me Tell You that was Enough to give a Puppy bad dreams for Days and Days and if Blue Hair was part of a Costume then I'm glad Momma didn't Bother Me with any of That.
There was a Very Tall Man wearing a Cowboy Hat that had Lights all over it and the Lights Kept Blinking On and Off and On and Off and when That Man came up to The Gate to say Nice To Meet You Savannah You Are One Lucky Puppy To Be Living Here it was All I could Do to Not Roar at him and his Lights and that Big Hat on his Big Head and I kept thinking that Momma begged me Not To Bark All Night Long even though I'd be seeing some Strange Things once The Party got going.
Then the Man with the Big Hat went away and another Man with a Guitar came to The Gate to say Hello Puppy to me and he said he was Johnny Cash and did I want to hear him Play A Song. I didn't know who that Man was and I didn't know who Johnny Cash was so I just sat in my Bed and hoped my Blue Monkey was Safe because the Guitar Man kept looking at it and saying Well How Cute Is That Little Blue Monkey Over There Yonder.
I sat in my Bed and watched the People coming through the Door with their Blue Hair and Lighted Hats and Funny Clothes and everyone was carrying a Bowl filled with Food or a Plate piled high with Brownies and Cookies and I thought that I was in for a Treat-Filled Night but no one gave me a Crumb or even a Piece of Cornbread and if that wasn't Bad Enough then someone Walked In The Back Door with a huge Pot of Chili and I didn't even get a Taste of that either.
Momma gave out Prizes for what she called The Best Costumes and someone said that Savannah Should Get A Prize For Being As Quiet As A Mouse All Night Long and after that Momma came into the Breakfast Room and gave me some Dog Biscuits and rubbed Under My Chin and told me how Proud she was that I was being such a Good Girl for the Halloween Party.
When Momma went back into the Dining Room I looked at those Dog Biscuits and smelled them and then smelled the Chili that was still in the Kitchen and I wondered if maybe Someone would come up to The Gate with a bowl of that Chili and maybe I could Trade my Dog Biscuits for just a little Taste of Chili. I even left my Bed and took my Blue Monkey off the Floor and Held him in my Mouth while I sat by The Gate and Looked Cute but then I decided maybe that wasn't a Good Thing to do because maybe the Johnny Cash Man would think I was going to Give him my Blue Monkey.
I heard Miss Judy's Voice during Momma's Party but I couldn't find her anywhere. Every time I heard her Voice all I could See was a Tall Lady With Blue Hair and Red Cheeks and Red Lips and a Horn around her Neck and I knew right away that Miss Judy didn't look like That and I don't think little Bella would have let her Momma out of the House looking like That anyway. And that got me Thinking that maybe Momma should have invited Bella to the Party and then we Both could have stayed in the Breakfast Room behind The Gate and maybe Bella could have Helped me think of a way to Go Into The Kitchen and Get Some of That Chili when the People with the Blue Hair weren't looking.
