Cloudy day at the dog park...

It's been cloudy and damp all morning long, but after lunch my husband wanted to take Savannah to the dog park. "It's not a very pretty day," I told my husband. His response was that Savannah didn't care if the sun was shining or not... he said she would enjoy the dog park anyway. (Translation: my husband's football team was losing and he needed a break from the game.)

So off we went... Savannah jumping into the car the minute the door was open. No hesitation whatsoever.  I haven't taken Savannah in my small two-seater car in the longest time, and I guess I'd better start doing that so she gets used to the bucket seat in my car, and I'm hoping she jumps into my car as easily as she gets into my husband's larger four-door sedan.

As we got near the dog park, I noticed a few sprinkles of rain on the windshield, and I was hoping beyond all hope that it wouldn't rain while we were in the park. Savannah goes two ways with rain--- she either loves it and takes her time and doesn't want to come out of it, or she can't get into the house soon enough. It's always a toss-up as to how she will react to wet weather from one day to the next.

Thankfully, it didn't rain while we were in the park, but no other dogs were in the park when we got there, and no one else came for the entire hour we were there. Savannah ran around by herself, exploring the grass under the large trees, running to the fence around the perimeter of the park, and chasing after a tennis ball that I found in the grass and tossed out to her. She even went into the shallow end of the pool a few times, splashing and drinking at the same time.

Every ten minutes or so, Savannah would stop and look towards the entrance of the park... I know that she was checking to see if any other dogs were on their way to play with her. She continued to run around a bit, then she walked into the gazebo where my husband and I were sitting, and she leaned up against my husband's leg and stood there for a while as he petted her back and told her she was the prettiest dog in the park.

When we got up to leave, Savannah followed us towards the exit gate, and she just hesitated a minute or so before following us out of the first gate and into the holding area. Then we put her leash on her and went out the second gate and into the parking lot. If Savannah was disappointed that she didn't get to play with other dogs today, it wasn't evident to us. She walked into the park a happy dog, and that's exactly how she walked out of it.

I told my husband that surely Savannah is ready for a good long ride now. She seems to be perfectly comfortable in the car, and when she's tired of sitting up and looking out of the window, she just lays down on her blanket and goes to sleep. Putting all crazy-puppy moments aside, we couldn't have asked for a better dog.
